'73 Leather Seat Covers

Zathrus,
In an answer to your email you sent me the other day about the Fiero seats you installed in your '73 Corvette with Mr. Mike Leather Seat Covers. Today you emailed me stating just the centers of the seat covers are Leather with the rest of the seat mainly along the sides you found out to be made with vinyl.

The original factory Leather seats on the '73 Corvette are made the same way with Real Leather in the area where you sit and rest your back. The rest of the seat cover is made of vinyl along the sides. When I ordered my replacement Leather Seat Covers for my '73 Coupe a few years ago from Wilcox Corvette Parts I found this out for myself. Wilcox also offers a full leather seat cover with Top and Sides made with real leather but for much more money. When I decided to do my seats over with replacement Corvette seat covers I decided to go with the original replacement Leather seat covers instead since my '73 had the factory vinyl seats when it was built and I hated those vinyl seats from day one when I purchased the car used in 1982 with just 17k miles on it.  The factory vinyl for that year are one ugly seat cover if anyone was to ask me. Pryor to owning my '73 years ago I also owned a '69 Coupe and a '72 Coupe and both were equipped with the factory Deluxe Leather Interior. I am pretty sure they both had the completely done Leather Seat Covers (Tops and Sides) on those particular years.

By the way those Fiero seats you put in your '73 Corvette look like nice seats. I bet they are more comfortable then the factory seat. Do they fit well?

I decided to put this conversation on the forum because it makes for good reading. Why let it get wasted in a email when it really belongs here. We need more posts like this one here for the little bit of members we have here at the moment to keep this forum moving. Below are a few pictures of the seats in my '73 Corvette after I replaced the factory vinyl seat covers with Leather Seat Covers from Wilcox. By the way for those not in the know these leather seat covers are made by Corvette America as Wilcox is one of Corvette America's top dealers that resells their product at a great price.

Most of the cars these days also have leather seating surface with vinyl siding. Saves money and vinyl is a little more forgiving. Almost impossible to tell the difference too as they are able to match the texture and color.

The Fiero seats are made by Lear Corporation not GM, for the Fiero. They are a lot more comfortable and offer more side support than stock plus they recline always a plus and the width is just right.

I used the stock tracks with a little modification. The mounting holes on the Fiero seats are narrower than the stock Corvette seats tracks mount approximately 15" apart as compared to 18" for the stock Corvette seats, so I hade to extend the stock tracks to the side by welding 1/8" steel plates to the front mounts, I removed the rear mounts and welded a 1/8" flat plate in its place at I think a 8 degree angle and extended to the side. Some people use the Fiero seat tracks and modify them to work with the Corvette mounting holes. I found I could get mine lower by using the stock tracks. I sit a little higher than stock but the seat does have more cushion. I also have the stock look with the chrome ball at the end of the seat release. I did modify the seat belt covers under the seat a little so I could place the seats as low as possible. Also the seat belt warning switch for the passenger side will not work with the Fiero seats.

The Stock early C3 seats it seems to me are not much more advance than Model T seats.

The seat covers I received are exceptionally made and very easy to install plus the vendor provides a installation kit and video to install the covers. I thought leather seats meant all leather not just the seating area. Now that I understand a little more about upholstery I feel I received a outstanding product. The Vendor is Mr. Mike and I do recommend his products. Mr Mike is very helpful and quick to responded to questions and concerns.

Thanks ffas23

I am not the first to install the Fiero seats with Mr. Mikes seat covers in a Corvette and I dont think I will be the last. Mr. Mike had an order for a set to go in a Corvette that he was starting right after mine.

I saw a post on another Forum that showed what Fiero seats with these covers look like in a 69 Vette and there were several others that replied that had the seats and Mr. Mike seat covers in Vettes, not all were the same style but all look good.
That's when I started looking for a set of Fiero seats.
Then I made sure they would work and fit (did not want my head pinned to the roof) as soon as I was sure I ordered the covers. So far I am really pleased with them

.The stock seats I use to joke with my friends and call them 30 minute seats. That's about as long as I could be comfortable in them. Cant wait to take a long ride in these and see what the time limit is biggrin

This is what the seats looked like before the covers.

I think that having some good Universal Fit Leather Seat Covers would be a best key here in having some good and key parts that you may want for your vehicle. Hope all will be well by now.

I have to agree with that one. Having a good Universal Fit Leather Seat Cover would be the key here. And things would be okay if you have done that one.
