On the other Forum I been watching a debate about motor oils for Flat Tappet Cams.
I am about to try the Brad Penn 10W - 30 oil. I have been using Castrol but it seems the Wal-Mart self oils are no longer suitable for the older cars. Specifications changed in 2005.
Have you heard of this problem with ZDDP levels that changed in 2005?
What oil are you using in your C-1's, C2's and C3's with flat tappet cams?
I haven't really thought about it much as I don't drive my Corvettes very much being I only have 6 months of the year to enjoy them and I have other vehicles to also drive. I am still using Valvoline All Climate 10/40 in my C-3 and still have a couple of cases of it as I don't use it in any other car I own. In the '67 I am using Pennsoil 10/30 and still have some old cases of that also. I did read basically the same thing that you read. Someone was talking about a product made by Warren Distribution in Omaha that still is made the old way. I do business with Warren and was told they do have the old oil in cases if any of my customers are interested in it. Too bad you are not from my area of the country Zathrus as I would of worked close to cost for you being a member on this forum if you were interested in any.

I've been using Shell Rotella T 15-40 because of what was recommended on the other forum and also what the NASCAR engine builder of my 383 stroker motor told me they recommend. Both for flat tappet and hydraulic roller.
I sell some Shell Rotella 15/40 in drums to customers of mine. It is suppose to be the best for Diesel Trucks. More expensive then any other oil that I sell. It must be at least a $150 more per barrel then the Cam II brand I also sell in my business.

On the oil forums it has been determined that running Diesel Oils in our older Vette Engines is not recommended.
They have much too much detergent additives in them that is detrimental to a gasoline operated engine. They are designed for Diesel fuel operation that run totally different than gas powered engines. (High ash content, etc.)
And the newer Diesel oils do not have the same level of zinc in them as the older ones used to.

Was there specific brands or just all have too high detergents? I understand with an older tired motor this may be an issue but with a new fresh motor?
I have been running 10/30 Cam II in my '67 Coupe since I have had it. Haven't noticed any problems.

This might not be prevalent since I haven't owned a C3 since 2003 .But I drove my 69 350/350 for almost 300,000 miles and I used Havoline 10-30 .I never had a problem .

The 350/350 was a hydraulic cam/lifter motor. No real need for the extra ingredients. The problem was with the solid lifter/cam motors. Too much friction causing cams to wear excessively. Havoline or any oil is fine on 99% of the motors as long as you change oil and filters regularly. Just some of use try to take advantage of what we believe is the best for our motors. May not need it but make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside!
