I'm changing my RF orginial tires to Kohos or Homos they are not run flats .Looking for a repair kit like the Z06 but I don't and won't pay $500 for it.
Thats correct .The down side of run flats is the cost ,A good set of replacement tires are 12-$1500 .The run flats are of a hard compound that really lacks road adhesion in cold weather .The third point is that run flats after 10,000 miles become noisy and I can't hear my wife Bitchin'
Kahomo makes a decent tire with a high performance rating ,Very quiet according to reports .The third thing is that they are almost half price at about $750 .
Biggest downside is that I'll need to repair the flat if necessary so I need to find a decent repair package .One thats not going to cost more than a tire .
How about road service like AAA towing? I have it for each member of my family. Free tow to nearest shop or home. We have the extended plan so I think it's free up to 200 miles. With 7 cars, we use it and get way more out of it than it costs. You get a flat, they tow you to the tire store to fix or replace the tire. I have heard nothing but bad things about the run-flat tires.
Check with Fred the moderator of this forum. He used to sell a Tire repair kit for around $50 to plug tires. It was a good one as I bought one from him many years ago and actually still use it once in awhile. I don't think shipping would be much. Mr. Muffler

Mr. Muffler thanks for the plug. Vett Boy it is true I am a Black Jack Tire Repair distributor in my area of New Jersey. I have been selling this American Made Kit to repair tires since the early 80's through my Automotive Parts Business. I happen to have kits in stock if you are interested or you can look around your area. Watch out as there are imports out there that may look similiar. The Black Jack repair is Black in color and once driven on after so many miles you will have a hard time seeing the repair in the tire as it blends right in. The inserts are made with Kevelar the same stuff they make the Police Bullet Proof Vests out of. If you are interested send me a PM and we can discuss it further. The Kit plus inserts have a shelf life of just about forever. The tools in the kit are second to none as they are professional tools that are all metal and are made to last a lifetime. It all comes in a hardened plastic case that will fit in any vehicle. This is the same exact kit the repair garages use.

What I've done is (thanks to Speedie) bought two front tires that will get me to fall when I'll change to Khomos and I'll PM ya to get one of the repair kits .I assume I'll need a small compressor that I can plug into the lighter ?????
Black Jack recommends that you fill your tire up to specs before plugging it. So if your tire requires 32 psi so to say you will need to fill it up before pulling the nail or screw out of your tire to plug it. You would then need to replace any air that is loss while doing so. If you plan to use the kit out on the road you will need some means of putting air back into your tire. In all of the years that I have repaired a tire I would say 99% of the time it was done right at my home where I have a compressor in my pole barn and one also in my two bay garage at the house in order to fill anything that needs air. Usually when you get a nail you can drive the vehicle home to repair it. If you are very far from home and feel the need to repair it where ever you are located you just need to find a gas station with air or just go out and get yourself one of those portable compressors that plug right into your lighter socket.

I had a nail in my Silverado tire for several years. I had to put air in it every two or three months as it would go down maybe 10 psi. Never did fix it and bought new tires when the tread was getting low. In fact, the other tire had a nail also and never leaked air. It's when you get a screw in the tire you lose air a little faster.
Its funny I haven't had a flat in a long time but just last week both me and my daughter in her 2007 Mustang got flat tires. I pulled a screw out of her left rear passenger tire and plugged it and within a couple of days I saw that one of my work Vans right rear passenger side tires was almost totally flat with just 10 lbs of air left in the tire. For a matter of fact I was looking for the leak while talking to Mr. Muffler of this forum on my cell phone. I was having a hell of a time finding it. I finally did but there was not a nail or screw. There was just a hole where air was bubbling up after spraying my mix of Ivory Snow dish detergent and water all over the tire while it was still on the Van. With the Black Jack Kit you don't need to take the wheel off of the car although sometimes it is easier doing so. Anyway as I said I located the hole but no nail. Must of driven over a board with a nail sticking out of it. I surely don't remember doing so. All is well with both vehicles now.

I haven't had a lot of flats but the worst was with my wifes 87 vett.I hit something on a busy highway and had to drive on the flat tire for almost a mile to find a safe stop .It was so flat I couldnt get the jack in place .I actually had to run over the jack to get it under the car .What a pain.
The majority of the time when you drive on a completely flat tire you ruin the tire as it breaks the tire up in the wall of the tire. Gave my wife hell one night when she drove home from work on a completely flat tire and didn't know it she told me. At the time she worked about a mile away from our home. She definitely ruined the tire and I had to replace it. If she would of let me know I could of plugged that tire being the tire still had plenty of thread left on it. At the very least she had a full size spare in the trunk. I don't know how anyone could drive on a flat tire and not know it as your car would be all over the road.
