Battery......best bag for the buck?

My daughters Ford Focus needed a new battery so while at Sam's club I saw an Energizer that has a 3 year full replacement warranty and a 8 year prorated warranty so I bought it for $65.00. I can't believe the price and the warranty. Any idea if the Energizer is good? I need a battery soon for the 65 coupe and the price sure is right. Last battery I bought was for my wife's Explorer and I got it at Kragen's. It was just over $100 and not sure what brand it was. It's only a 6 year prorated warranty.

Ken I have purchased plenty of batteries from Sams Club over the years. You can't go wrong with the price compared to elsewhere. Batteries is something I never sold in my present parts business. Sams use to carry the Champion Brand of Car Batteries prior to the Engerizer they sell now. In the past Sams didn't give that great of a warranty but I guess they need to compete and now are giving a better warranty. Go for it for your '65. That is where I will get mine the next time around. My C5 has a brand new Optima battery in it. Being the C5 battery sits above computer controls many have opted for the Optima so I guess I will probably stick with it being battery acid could be a possible problem from what I understand but with my C-2 and C-3 or any of my other collector cars I will go with whatever is the cheapest with the best warranty and Sams seems to be the place being I am a member there also. I have a Sams Energizer sitting in my Street Rod as I just replaced it back in May. Still have a Sam's Champion sitting in my C3 at the moment.

 Fred,

I have a NAPA Legend in it now and it is a little smaller than the battery tray. Because I have Vintage A/C and heater hoses all in the way not to mention the expansion tank which I will need to move to get the old battery out and new in, I was thinking of buying the smaller size Energizer. Do you have any knowledge on these batteries and size needed for my 65?

Thanks !

Ken just take a look at the Cold Cranking Amps of the battery. Most of the small ones are made to put out like the larger ones. I have a smaller one in my Street Rod being the battery when I built the car is located behind the passenger side wheel well area in the battery tray built right on the frame of my car. Never had any problem turning over my ZZ4 series HPO motor.

Thanks Fred, here in Kali where I live it rarely gets below freezing and especially in my garage. So not sure I need big numbers for cold cranking. But size matters and for once, small is better !!!  thumbsup.gif

Ok, got the Energizer group 34 battery today from Sam's. $69.45 with exchange.  795 CCA 995 CA. Should have no problems with the cranking amps. Warranty 3 year full replacement, 7 or 8 year pro-rated. Now I get to have fun removing the old and installing the new. That should take half a day and half a six pack.

Just read the small print on the battery. It's made by Johnson Control and 3 year exchange/replace or 8 year pro-rated.

Think you are right. I tried to google Energizer car batteries and nothing. May be a name Sam's Club uses? Lots of other types of Energizer batteries but not the 12 volt for cars. Guess they don't want that bunny doing car batteries?
