Wrecked the Vette

Saturday morning. First time I've ever drove a car off the dang road. Senior moment.
I clicked TC off and in 2nd gear kicked it and it shot across the road and I hit a fence post dead center. Had the top down and dust and dirt filled the car. Lucky there were no curbs on this country road and the sides were level. No ditches. So I dropped it off at the body shop Saturday afternoon. One that deals with Vette and are honest. Looks like I bent the bumper frame. He said he could repair and repaint the bumper cover. Could have been a lot worse. Still sucks though. The 06 GTO I had was 200hp stronger and I never took it off roading!

Unbelievable as this could happen to anyone. Glad you are ok. Didn't understand what you meant by clicking the TC off. Its early in the morning and my brain isn't working correctly yet.

TC = Traction control. Got my estimate back yesterday. $1013.00 which includes a detail of the whole car. Suspension and everything underneath is good. Relief. should have it back the end of this week. Garage sure looks empty!

Must have only been the bumper that got damage for that $ amount. Glad to hear you and the car are ok. Some cars have a manual switch for traction control, some automatic.

I am still new to my C5. Mine has a button to turn on Traction Control in the console but I haven't used it as of yet. I don't drive the car everyday  and probably haven't even put more the a hundred miles on the car since I got it a little over a month ago.

Sounds like you did ok for only a little over a thousand dollars considering what you went through with your accident.

I have learned my lesson. TC will always stay on unless I'm in a lot with nothing in sight for 1/4 mile. Funny I've had cars with a lot more HP and always caught it if it felt like it was getting away. Just talked to the body shop and it should be ready Friday. Hey and all the rock chips on the front cover will be gone!

A few years ago I owned a '86. One day I came to an intersection where I had to make a left turn. Looked both way, no traffic coming, turned the wheel and hit the gas. Maybe a little too much because the rear came around and I ended up on the other side of the street facing the wrong way. Wow, that was a scary moment. Thank God no one was coming and I didn't hit anything.

Does anyone know how that traction control works? Is it similiar to a car with Posi-traction as we had for years where both rear wheels grabbed unlike in a car with a open rear with only one side grabbing at all times? I thought I saw something on the C5 Video menitioning something about the ABS braking system being sent commands from the computer to control a few things if the car was about to go out of control but I am not quite sure of what I saw and heard.

I decided to move this thread to where it belongs into the C5 section of the forum.

Wanna learn about TC?  Go to an empty parking lot, turn the TC off and stomp on the gas.  (Optional - bring a change of undies!)

Turned out to be 960.00. They did a great job matching the paint.

Traction control will back off fuel and timing and apply brakes to any wheel that is spinning.

It's a good thing when paint matches

I noticed after the car was repaired that the front air dam/spoiler kept dragging. Took it off this past weekend and the bracket was bent. Did a temp repair on it and ordered a new one today. Car is running really good.
