Some may know that I worked at Bowling green in 2003 .I was considered a guest worker during the month of January and also produced a one of a kind quicksilver Vert .which is stored under special conditions near by .
What is important that I learned from a couple engineers about oil consumption .The LS1-LS3 engines are aluminum and alloy parts .The fact is that aluminum expands and contracts 1 inch per 100 which is a lot.The engine block because of it's mass expands and contracts slightly different than it's wear parts .What I was told was that break in was extremely critical.Unlike the owners manual ,Do not exceed 3000 RPM during the first 1000 miles .Also allow the engine to warm slightly prior to driving .As the aluminum warms quickly this takes only 2 minutes at the most.
I applied this recommendation to my 03 and 08 and bingo ,no oil consumption .The LS2 and 3 are not as fragile on break in period. It's very difficult to resist the temptation of what a new Corvette will do .I met hundreds of people who have asked me ,whats your oil use?
Now this might not be all the answer but it's the initial part .
Interesting. Good info. I've read and researched for the last month on this issue. What I understand was on the 01's there was a #2 ring issue. I don't put many miles on the car so it's going to take time to keep up with oil issues and make sure I really have issues.

You are correct that for some reason there was a ring issue on some but not all From 2000 -2002 .GM was out sourcing from different vendors during that period .The ring problem was not consistent .
