Wednesday afternoon I go to the Pole Barn behind my home where I park 2 vehicles to the right of the Barn. Get over to a '88 Monte Carlo I also own and smell gas really bad. I figure maybe someone came through the woods at night time trying to syphon gas and maybe they used a ice pick to poke the tank. Not being able to see anything I decide to start the car. Pump the gas and it don't want to start right away. Finally it kicks over and I let it run for a minute all the time smelling gas. I back up and now pull it to the front of the Pole Barn and shut it off. I get out and the smell is unbelievable by now. I take a walk around the car figuring maybe it is coming from the back and see nothing but as I look up toward the front I am noticing one of the biggest puddles under the front of the car. I go to open the hood to take a look and gas is gushing out of one of the 2 hoses going to the mechanical fuel pump on the car. I got inside of the barn to get my special tool that looks like a pair of pliers but are for pinching off hoses so to stop flow and cut the fuel off. Can you believe some critter had my fuel hose for lunch and ate almost right through the 3/8" feed line. The return line was also nalled upon but wasn't leaking. Lost a full tank of gas at a little less then $4 a gallon because of a rat or mouse. Wonder if the pest is still alive once he tasted some gas? Weren't any dead mice around that I can see.

I don't think it was a mouse, rat or most likely Gray Squirrel........
Redwing you could be right as I have plenty of squirrels on the property but there is plenty of food for them being the trees always drop plenty of nuts that they like to bury on my property but I would of never thought of a squirrel eating fueline hose to be honest with you. Been living here since 1985 and never experienced a problem like this before. At times I did find acorns and nests and what have you on top of the engine and all around under the hood on cars parked outside. A neighbor across the road had to have her car brought to a dealer being something ate her cars wiring under the hood months ago.
