Exhaust header gasket help please

I want to find some small block thick header gaskets to move my headers 1/8" away from the heads. I need this to move my sidepipes away from the frame as they are touching the frame. Yes, it's a long story but I think this will work. Any ideas? I know I can take a couple and put them together to get the thickness but would rather find something that would be one piece if possible. I have the SHP motor with LT1 heads. I am pretty sure any square ported small block gasket will work but it needs to be thick and non-crush or minor crush so I can get the distance between the head and the ramshorn. Thanks!

Ken,
Mr.Gasket probably makes one of the thicker header gaskets that I know of. I believe you can double up on them also if you needed to. Being you are using aftermarket headers with your side exhaust without a picture I really would not have an idea for you. All I can say is there would be no problem with the factory set up using the factory exhaust manifold with the factory sidepipes whereas there you have 3 studs coming down off of the factory exhuast manifold and there plus the last bolt on the side exhuast to frame is where you would make your adjustment to keep the side pipe away from the frame. I usually just loosen thae back bolt and nut by the very end of the side pipe under the rear of the driver or passenger door and them loosen the 3 nuts holding the pipe to the exhuast manifold. Right there you would start retightening the nuts while watching the side pipe adjust under the frame and lock it up right where you want it to sit. With aftermarket headers as in your case everything may be different plus if I remember correctly you have a center pipe or crossover pipe going from side pipe to side pipe which I am sure will cause a problem in doing it the way I would do it on my car or on most C-2's that have the factory setup for side exhaust.

Fred,

Nope, I have the factory ramshorns and Allen's sidepipes. Remember I had Dave cut open my sidepipes, wrap them with glass, and the new outer shell is now 1/4" wider so they fit but just touch the frame. I have tried to adjust them up and down the sides with everything loose but because the diameter is now almost 3", there is not enough room. So I was thinking I would try and move the ramshorns out from the heads which in turn will move the pipes out. I only need 1/8".

Well, located a set of 1/8" gaskets made by Spectre. Also had a set of Fel Pro 1/16" so combined each side will have 3/16". Hope it works?

Ken I forgot you had Dave do some Magic to your sidepipes to quiet them down. Wow 3 inch no wonder they touch the frame. Hopefully your use of thicker gaskets will do the trick. I never liked dealing with header gaskets as they always seem to blow out on me on the cars I have owned that previously had a set of headers mounted. My Street Rod has a set of shorty's and I could swear they are leaking and I may need to replace the gaskets soon and believe it or not I have less then 2,000 miles on the car driven. It will be a pain in the a$$ to get to them since I will have to disassemble parts of the body to get to them.no
