383 motor

I am seriously thinking of changing motors in my 65 coupe. It currently has a 73 350 LT1 small block in it and I would like to do a 383. Option # 1 would be take the spare 327 block and heads that are date correct sitting in the corner of my garage, have them machined, buy a 383 rotating assembly, put my correct intake, Holley, ramshorns, and distributor on it and have a correct looking motor with some great torque and horse power. Option # 2 would be buy a crate 383 and add my intake, Holley, ramshorns, but keep the heads that come with the crate motor. I know option # 1 will have a little less power but it will look correct and #2 more power but not look quite correct. Thoughts? I think cost would be about the same. Thanks

  Hi Ken
I think I like option #2 with the crate motor. If you ever sell the car you would still have a # matching motor that is stock to go with it. Just my opinion.

Ken,
I put one of the ZZ4 GM Crate Motors in my Street Rod. Myself I would go with a crate motor also if it were me and keep the original on the side. The code on the motor I put in the Rod is listed as ZZZ the first generation of the ZZ4 motors. Its a 350 rated at 345 HP with factory Aluminum heads and manifold and roller cam. Let me tell you my Street Rod runs nice with this motor. Heck why don't you consider purchasing that new small block 427 for your car. I heard it is one hell of a motor. Either way the 383 is one heck of a motor also. The great thing about it Ken is its your choice right now. juggle.gif
