Ken, Can you show me a picture of the Air Cleaner Assembly it is suppose to fit. I still have plenty of round air filters in stock and by looking at the Air Cleaner Assembly I may be able to come up with something for you.

I went ahead and ordered a K&N from Summit. I have a show to go to Saturday with a couple of forum members and need to have the air cleaner/hood clearance resolved. Lots of 14" filters out there in 2" and 3" height but nothing in 2 1/2". I have the Holley 14" drop base air cleaner specifically made for the Holley carb. Came with 3" tall filter which is too tall, 2" filter too short as the lid hits the choke. Sure hope the 2 1/2" works or I'll have to figure something else out. My original air cleaner hit the float screws as they are different than the older Holley carbs. They sit in the middle at the top so the base of the original hits them. The Holley base has an indention and actually sits lower than the stock. But with the new 383, it has the RPM Air-gap which is a taller manifold. So the fun begins!
Ken, Since you have your situation straigtened out already I won't check further but I did check some filters last night made by Purolator and came up with some filters that would possibly work. I wasn't about to try to sell you any and ship to California but was going to give you some cross part numbers to look for at your local auto parts store. Myself I don't care for K&N filters. They are suppose to last a lifetime as you can clean them they say. I find them to not let enough air come through as the paper media filters that you throw away when dirty. The High price of a K&N Filter is also another factor.

I agree I don't care for them either. But I could not find a 2 1/2" tall paper filter. If you have some info or part numbers, maybe I can send this one back to Summit when I receive it. They are good about taking back unused parts.
Ken, You may still be in luck. I just got your PM. Go to any parts store and ask for the equivalent of any of the following manufacturers part numbers below. The filter I measured either Tuesday or Wednesday night if I am correct is 13-1/2" wide and either 2-1/2 or 2-3/4" thick if I remember correctly. If you can get to a parts store carrying one of these part numbers below you can check it right on the spot before you pay for it to see if it fits.

Ken, That is strange that you measured 3" since the Purolator Group 7 (VA74) doesn't measure 3" thick. I will have to go out to my building this morning and take another look for the exact thinkness on what I have. I am going by what I remember from a few days ago when you first started to look for a filter but went with the K&N instead. I stopped looking at that point.

Don't need a filter. I sent back the K&N 14" as it was just over 14" and didn't fit so ordered a K&N 13.75" X 2 1/2". That height gives me about 1/8" hood clearance. I googled the filter numbers you gave me and they were all around 3" tall. In fact, K&N was the only filter I could find that was 2 1/2" tall in the 13" to 14" round size.
