Since he won't get murder one, if they let him off completely or give him involuntary manslaughter with less than a 10 year sentence, I think there will be riots. If it were reverse, Black man shoots white man, no riots which is confusing to me that blacks will riot while whites won't. I never could understand that but then I am not black so I am sure there is a difference in the way we look at things. No, not a raciest statement, maybe ignorant but not raciest. One man dead and another man said he made a mistake. I have a hard time believing you can mistake a gun for a taser. Not sure what he was thinking. I would call it murder any way you look at it.

Closing arguements are today in LA, they couldn't hold the trial in Oakland.

A Sworn Officers life is on the line..........the fact that a wrong verdict could start a riot
is going to a major factor in whatever verdict is reached.......it could very well the basis for a retrial.
Oakland groups are preparing for street protests already, windows downtown are being boarded up, police on standby.

If this doesn't go right you know what it means, and it wont stop in California it could be nation wide.
A big part of any riot regardless of the reason of the riot is looting........
Its basically a opportunity for "grab and run"............

This is the 2nd time that a police officer grabbed the wrong weapon and a suspect was shot.
I think it was a Monterey Sheriffs Deputy that was going to taze a man in cuffs in the back of police cruiser and shot him with her service weapon.

No riots over that the man was Mexican. Its against police policy to taze a suspect in restraints in the back of police crusier.
Its difficult to second guess a officer in the heat of an arrest.

I'd would say it would have to be involuntary manslaughter.
5 years jail time and it will probably end in a 2 year sentence...........

If he walks it will be 'Burn baby Burn".............

My guess is if the sentence is light, watch out! I would think anything less than 20 years with chance of early parole will have some really bad repercussions.

Well, Ken, it doesn't look good...............I live in a tiny town that could careless about big cities and big city problems, but we all are always dragged into whatever happens in some way or another, hope for the best, prepare for the worst.........

I'd say that the officer is going to hang, based on the threat of a riot, it worked for OJ in LA.

Involuntary manslaughter with a weapon, no riots, I'm impressed. But bet if he got off it would have been much different. Personally, I don't understand how you can mistake the difference between a gun and taser.

I'd have to agree .I'm surprised at no riots also but maybe Obama told 'em all to behave

Ken its the "fog of war", he really did mean to Taze the man.
The Tazer feels just like a gun in your hand, it has a pistol grip and a trigger.
I think there were some 80 arrests at last nights demonstration.

A police officer is trained to go for his weapon, not a Tazer the Tazer was a new addition for the BART Police.
Because of the fear of a riot the officer was served up to the locals.
Thats not justice, its the fear of a few criminals.

It wasn't a full blown riot, but riots are not about justice its about looting which did happen.

I think the state got lucky on this one, we both know it could've been a lot worse.
I'm not a big fan of the Tazer it has taken some lives and its probably saved a lot more.

If the Tazer was incorporated into the baton it would not be mistaken for a gun.

I would agree regarding an accident but looking at the video he pulled it while the guy was laying on his stomach and the office was bending over with the gun at arms length. He had to see it was a gun, not a Tazer? If these guys just got Tazers, they should have been through a recent training class on how to use and recognize the difference between a Tazer and a gun. I'm not saying it was not a mistake, I just think he has a duty to make sure he has the correct gun and uses the correct amount of force to defuse the situation. This guy for some reason lost his cool and let the adrenalin get the best of him. That to me is wrong and he took a life. I don't care what color the victim is, he was killed and it should have never happened. Someone has to be responsible. I was glade the officer was convicted and will spend jail time. He is totally responsible for his actions. Mistake or not. Had that been my son, not sure how I would have dealt with it.

Yep, I agree with you, it shouldn't have happened.

It's hard for me to believe it was a full blown accident But I wasn't there.Lots of strange things happen in the heat of the moment.
