Interior insulation help


I am going to insulate my 65 coupe next week while on vacation. I have the double sided foil from EZ-Cool called Low-E. I am going to do the floor under all the carpet and if I have enough I will also do the headliner. I have had the seats out and the chrome console before but was wondering if there are any tips in removing the carpets and what to expect and what problems I can run into. I don't believe I have any kind of matting under the carpet as I am sure it is just glued to the floor. I want to also try and get as much as possible under the dash without removing the dash. I have Vintage Air so there is a lot of stuff in the way. Any tips are appreciated. I will be using a 3M spray adhesive to install it.

Ken, Years ago I replaced the carpet in my first Corvette my '67 Vert back in 1971 a very long time ago. I remember I didn't glue down the carpeting in front of the seats I just laid the carpet in there as it is preformed and doesn't move when done. There was a jute backing in the replacement carpet I remember like the original carpet. Behind the seats I used a spray 3m type of glue in different areas but didn't glue the rear carpet completely. Only where I felt it was really needed especially right behind the seats and of course to the top of the back compartment. Its been so long ago I am surprised I remembered it so well. I never installed the foil type of installation before but when I sent my interior out to be done in the Street Rod I built they used it inside of my '34. I wasn't there to watch them though but I know for a fact that they glued the carpet right to it as it will not move out of place. Myself if doing this probably would not of done the same. I like to be able to get under the carpet if need be. You never know when you need to run wires under the carpet or need to replace some already there.  You may want to consider that.

Fred,

Thanks for the info on wires under the carpet as that is a great idea. In case I ever want to install a stereo system I think I will run speaker and power wires after I remove the carpet. I may never install a stereo but you never know and it would be much cleaner of an install VS after trying to make them fit or tearing up some of the new install. Thanks smile

I also think just using adhesive in areas needed VS all over is the way to go. Just in case like you say if you need to lift it for some reason.

I got the leather seat covers for my Fiero seats and am going to install them next week while on vacation. Not sure if you saw any of the threads on CF but I have a few. I am keeping the originals so if I ever sell the car or want to switch I have them.

Vett boy that would be a good thing to do to try to get a few more members here that are not afraid to post in the Corvette section of this forum. This forum could be a better forum with more members contributing to threads in this section. We are always looking for new members which as I said in the past are hard to come by as most from what I can see will not wait for this forum to grow. Just look at the list of members here that left this forum. Why did they leave?  My bet is they rather go to a forum that has been established for years already no matter how bad the Moderators treat them at those forums. Many of us including myself have seen this at the CF forum. As many know I got tired of being banned for speaking my mind over there about the unscrupulous Corvette Vendors that advertise there. I felt my fellow Corvette members there needed to know how I was treated. I felt we needed to have a voice as to who the good Corvette Vendors were and who mistreated its customers so other members would know. Same thing happened to Ken as he was banned there quite a few times for his complaints about the vendors that did him wrong. Ken chose to stay and is still a member there. I decided to start this alternative Corvette forum. Ken helped me get this forum going and I appreciate his help to this day. I am glad Ken is still here as he didn't give up on this forum. I guess Ken still has hope for this forum as I still do.
