Yep I took my new to me C-5 out for a ride finally on Saturday. Had the car for almost a week and finally got it out on the road. Being the DMV was closed last Monday, Tuesday I went out to get the plates and register it and also took care of Insurance on the car. Wednesday I got to put the plates on the car and finished applying some Meguires Show Glaze to the Black Paint. Thursday it rained all day and on Friday I got a delivery from Mid America Corvette that I place on the Monday after I purchased the C-5 for a set of SS Exhaust tips for the rear of the car being the '99 C-5 just didn't look right to me with 4 black pipes sticking out the back. It definitely needed that added touch I felt. $94.00 later including shipping she looks much better.
Now after the less then 10 mile drive I took on Saturday I have to say I came away impressed with the C-5. Never before other then my short cruise with the car on Sunday before I purchased it did I ever drive a C-5. For a matter of fact the first time I sat in one for a few seconds was a week before I purchased my C-5 sitting in a friends car. I have to admit it is a completely different animal then both my C-2 and C-3 which are very close in comparison themselves. I never had a car that handled so well to be honest with everyone here. I thought both my C-2 and C-3 handled well but the C-5 is a true upgrade in that department. The car also really drove smooth. A little creaking coming out of the top roof panels at times was all I encountered depending on the road I was on. Again it only has 36k on the odometer and to me it is still virtually a new car in my eyes. Can still smell the leather in the seats of the car as you drive. Power was very impressive also. Didn't get into all the way yet but for what I did I was definitely impressed at how the LS1 runs at only 345HP. Drove it on the hyway and at 80 mph the car felt like I was doing 40mph to me. I am sure this car could cruise at 120mph like it were nothing right now. That I have to see for myself soon as I am very curious about it at this point. Problem is it will have to be when I see a stretch of hyway that is virtually empty something you don't see very often in New Jersey anymore. First chance I get I will give it the test.

I've been fortunate to have driven and owned each generation .I think the real changes started with the C4 .Totally different ride and handling although the performance seemed more suttle rather than raw.The C5 LS1 was much better engine feel and the most comfortable Vett in history. When I bought the 08 people said the ride would be much better.I didn't think it was possible ,but it is .Not a great deal but the appointments and creature features have evolved .What I do like is the add of another 100 HP ,what I don't like is a place to use it.
Glad your enjoying it. I had the same experience first real cruise in my C5. Very refined and a good overall package in handling comfort and power. The C4 I had was a pristine nice driver but going from the C4 to the C5 I was surprised at the differences. The C4 you could feel the road. Wish I still had the C4 along with my C5. Good post.
A few years ago my wife and I were travelling in the 97 and I found a great straight empty stretch of road. She said 140 was plenty fast enough! It felt like 80. (I've been nearly 140 in my 57 - that feels like 220!)
