I am thinking about buying a 1981 Fiat 2000 Spider for a fun driver. My 65 Corvette Coupe with a 383 stroker is fun but no drop top and is a gas mileage killer. Any of you guys have any experience with the Spiders?
I am going to look at it this weekend. If it's in good condition I may buy it. Then if I really like it, I'll do some restoration and fix it up to be a nice car. He want $2500.00 for it and in doing some checking, that's a great price if in good condition. Here are some pics of it:
Ken, I don't know a thing about Fiats but I know one thing you can't really expect much for just $2500. Hope I am wrong in your case. That kind of money doesn't buy much where I am located. It would probably be a rust bucket here for that kind of money. Doesn't look bad in the pictures though. Maybe you found yourself a creme puff.

I think it's a great car from the description. It's also a California car and never been out of Sacramento. Older man owned it and hi son-in-law put it on craigslist with no idea of worth. Nice ones go for 7K-9K.
Well, I passed on the 81 Spider as it was in need of lots of work but was still a fair deal for the price asking $2500. So I searched for another one and one just popped up on CL late last night so I went and drove it today. 1978 Fiat 124 Spider. Better car, way better condition, always in California with zero rust, maintenance records from Fiat dealer, new paint, runs great, shifts great, only thing wrong is master cylinder leaks so need rebuild. Everything works perfect. Not a single ding or scratch. I'll need to replace the vinyl top, new carpet kit, and cloth or sheepskin seat covers as minor cracks in the driver seat. Has 140,000 miles, red with tan interior. 5 speed. I will pick it up next week when the owner gets smog check done and title updated. Price was $2,500 and I could sell it tomorrow for $5,000 or more. Once in awhile you get lucky.
I'll post pics when I get her home next week. Just a fun toy, better gas milage and I like the idea I can now go topless! LOL

I know what getting Car Lucky is also Ken as I feel I got lucky when purchasing my C-5 from what I have seen equivalent C5 cars going for out there with low mileage as mine has only 36k on the OD.

Wish I was lucky when I purchased my C2. I paid probably $5,000.00 too much but I don't plan on selling it at least not for a long time. That's kind of the reason I bought the Fiat to play with.
