Put my 65 coupe up for sale today. I want a C5 or C6 so the 65 must go.
Good luck with the sale Ken. Just so you know once you go past a '99 C5 there is only 1 key lock on the drivers side door to get in to open the hood if you happen to have a dead battery. Up to '99 there are still 2 key locks. All C6's have no outside key locks. Everything is electronic. A dead battery can pose a problem in that car as it has happened to a number of people in C6's that could not get out of the car with a dead battery. Maybe someone can chime in here with more info on the C6's.
The reason I mentioned this on the C5 with keylocks I read on another forum where someone with a 2000 could not get in his C5 with a dead battery being their was something wrong with his driver side key lock and of course there wasn't one on the other side of the car to use. Most people just use their remotes to get in these cars but if your remote battery also fails what is one to do especially if you are miles from home. I know of no other way to get in to open the hood on these cars whether C5 or C6.

There is a lot to learn about them as I know nothing regarding C5/C6. In my 32 Ford street rod with shaved doors, I has an extra positive and negative set of wires I ran from the passenger door lock, to under the back of the floor just in front of the rear wheel. If the keypad failed or the car's battery failed, you could take a small 9 volt battery and connect the wires to it and it would unlock the door. The problem with electronics is they sometimes fail. Best to have some kind of backup system for the ones that can cause big problems! Any other info you can give me would be appreciated! I am going to try for a fairly stock car, no hot rodded motor or serious suspension changes.
Since last August when I picked up my C5 I have been absorbing everything I can about the car because I knew nothing about them never owning a Corvette pass the C-3 model. Its amazing how advanced these cars became. Trust me you won't be sorry if you buy a C5. Just try to find one with low mileage under 40k if you can. They claim the C5 engine is made to last 200K miles. What are you looking for a Coupe or Ragtop? Base C5 like I have or Z06? C5 Z06's are nice but I don't care for the Z06 Body as much as I do the Coupe the reason for me buying a Coupe. C6 Z06's copied the body style of the C5 Coupe's having the full rear glass hatchback similiar to your '65 and my '67. There is definitely more room to put things in the back then the short roof look of the C5 Z06 with a trunk. Either way you really can't go wrong.

You do have one good thing going for ya though Ken. You don't have to wait to sell your '65. A very nice C5 can be picked up for almost nothing these days. Trust me I know. Why wait? Told you get rid of the Fiat first instead. When the right buyer comes around the '65 will sell. The C5 will more then help you forget about the Fiat again trust me. Go and pick yourself up a C5 now and enjoy it because you are definitely going to again Trust me. Why even waste the time waiting as it will start getting on your nerves. Its not like you are a teenager once again and have plenty of time to wait. Look at the way the country is going. Things are not going to get any better I believe. I say go for it now and I am willing to bet most on this forum agree with me.

I have the Fiat up for sale also. We have a 3 car garage and 6 cars/trucks. I need to downsize! I get tired of moving cars out of the driveway to get to cars in the garage. I have a bunch of offers from C5 and C6 owners. I'm sitting back and taking my time to see what happens. I really like the C6 cars style a little more than the C5. But a C5 would be nice too. I hear the C6 rides a little nicer?

Ken,
If you like the C6 better go for it. Myself I never cared for the chopped off look in the back of the C6 when they came on the market in 2005. Still can't get use to it. Always liked the way the C5 looked and lets face it GM really didn't need to steal the outer headlight look from the Dodge Viper to make the Corvette look better. As far as I am concerned Chevrolet Corvettes have always been known to have hideway headlights from the C2 generation on and it should of continued I feel as many other Corvette owners feel the same way as I do.
Never drove a C6 as of yet and never drove a C5 before purchasing the one I have now but I can tell you one thing the ride in my C5 is fantastic. Night and day over any of the other 5 Corvettes I have owned in the past. I suggest that if you haven't driven either as of yet I would go for a few test drives in a C5 and a C6 to compare them yourself.

Both are great cars .The c6 has less trunk space especially if ya go with the power top .The Navigation system sucks .I can say I really enjoy the extra 100 hp of the c6 ..
Ken check out the prices Conte's a Corvette dealer in South Jersey has on older and later model Corvette's. Actually the C5 and C6 prices don't seem to be that bad at this place being it is a dealer so you know they have to get a little more.

Ken what year is the C6 you are trading for? Coupe,Vert or Z06? Color? Auto or 6spd Stk? Lets see some pictures. You must of gotten pictures the other owner took of the car to see what you are getting. Post a few and then shoot your own photo's when you get it.

Yep, I drove the 65 down to Fresno (200 miles) to do the exchange and returned home with the C6 and lots of money in the bank. I'll be posting some pics later this week. I need to get the registration for an out of state car done at DMV and get it smogged for Calif. Hope it passes since it is supercharged. Has the correct CARB EO sticker so should pass.

Looks like you will soon be making a Avitar change here on the forum Ken. Good luck with your C6. I am willing to bet you are going to enjoy this car based on what I have found owning a C5. Its nice having an older one but its also nice having a newer one to see the improvements they made over the years. Glad I have the room to be able to keep all of my collector cars although I guess I can't consider my C5 a collector car although it is now 12 years old and soon to be 13 in a few months. I think they consider cars 15 years or older a collector car as far as the Collector Car Insurance company's are concerned but to get special plates in my state its 25 years old to be considered an antique car.

Still going to use my 65 for awhile. I do miss it but have to say the C6 is way more fun to drive and very comfortable even with the Z51 suspension. Makes me feel about 20 years younger!
I'm about 100 miles from the coast. Yes, we can go topless. You can drive but ya gotta go topless also!
LOL!!!! Deal!
I lived in California when I was much younger, and I never drove the PCH. My hubby is giving me a pass on this one.
Years ago when I lived near SF I belonged to ZONC (Z owners of California) and went on a couple trips with other Nissan Z owners down hwy 1 and spent a day and night at Hurst Castle. Was fun taking the Castle tour and driving with about 50 other Z cars along the coast. Think that was about 25 years ago and my last foreign car. 280ZX was kind of cool back then.
PS.....tell hubby I'd only look and not touch!
