C5 Headlight Buckets

Took my C5 out for a ride just the other day being we have been having some nice weather here in N.J. especially for this time of year. Anyway it was late afternoon when I took my ride. Just as I was pulling back in at home right around 5pm the Sun was setting and I decided to turn my lights on when going to park in my Pole Barn so I could see a little better. Turns out that my lights went on but my headlight buckets did not raise up. Tried a number of times and could not get them up. Put the car away for the night and the following day I tried the lights without starting the engine and the Headlight Buckets came up with no problem. Doesn't seem like it is the Switch in the column being it seems to be working ok as it does put the parking lights on, lights up the dash and does turn the headlights on and off but something else I believe is going on that now I feel I have intermitent headlight buckets. Did a search on the net and heard it could possibly be a ground, switch, headlight motor, fuse you name it. confuse I don't believe it is a fuse being it would not work at all if it was.

I tend to agree. Can't see it being one or both of the headlight motors. First off 2 motors wouldn't go at once and being the car is a low milieage car both motors are not making any noise. They sound like they are new. If it was the switch I believe I would notice something with it not working the parking lights, headlights or dash lights. Switch seems to be fine. Ground is another story as it was always a problem on many earlier Corvette's. Not that familiar with my C5's headlight system. I will have to search out where the grounds are for the headlights and go from there.

Yes, ground would be very first thing to check. I believe if one motor isn't grounded the other will not work either as they are probably in-line. Probably just loose.

I don't have that problem with my C6. nana.gif

Drove my C5 around on Sunday for maybe about an hour. Took a quick look at the harness on both the passenger and driver side to both electric motors. Moved them around a little before I left. Everything still looks like new under the hood. Can't really see any ground wires. Have no idea where they are. When I do find where they are I will check them out.  Absolutely no problems on Sunday with the headlights. So far so good. They are working all the time now.  Not going to worry about it unless it happens more frequently. Might of just been a freak thing at the moment. Who knows with all the electronics on these cars? At least Chevrolet built in a safety bypass just in case where they will lift by hand into place under the hood if worst comes to worst. I don't mind one bit. I still like Corvette Hideway Headlights. No worst a situation then it could be on my C2 or C3. Love the C5. Still amazed by this car and what it can do on the road in comparison to my older C2 and C3.

One of the first things I did when I bought my C2 was rebuild the headlight motors. They worked but were very slow and one would not open all the way. After I rebuilt them they worked perfect. Worst part was getting the motor brushes back in. My eyes aren't that good and my fingers don't like me either. hmm
