Eli Manning Snubs GM By Turning Down Keys to 2012 Grand Sport

You just won the big game and received the MVP award, and with it, a brand new car! But it’s a Chevy, and you’ve been helping sell Toyotas for years… Awkward! Millions are watching live on TV as one of the major sponsors of the game presents you with the keys to a brand new 2012 Corvette Grand Sport convertible – what do you do? Keep it simple and classy, saying “thank you” to at least acknowledge the prize, without seeming like an entitled jerk who is worried about burning bridges with the foreign company that’s been writing you checks for years?

Nope! If you’re Eli Manning, you leave without a word or the keys…

Nope! If you’re Eli Manning, you leave without a word or the keys…

Kevin and Bean of Los Angeles radio station KROQ performed a mock interview with the MVP this morning; according to their “correspondence” with the game winning quarterback the current plan is to use the C6 as a planter. It is unlikely that the Corvette will actually face such a harsh fate, but it does leave ‘vette lovers and football fans wondering will happen to the C6.

While playing in, let alone leading a team to victory in the Super Bowl is an achievement few of us could even begin to comprehend, and the pressure of post-game interviews and ceremonies must be enormous, how hard is it to say “thank you” and pocket the keys? Even if your fear of offending Toyota is so great that actually accepting and driving the gift is unthinkable, at least raffle it off for charity or something…

If anyone at GM is actually reading this, I am sure there are plenty of armchair quarterbacks who would graciously receive the Corvette and provide it with a loving home if Manning never does pick up the keys.

If that was what really happened, he's kind of a jerk. I'm sure Toyota would understand he got it for being the MVP and not for any other reason. But when you have that much money, I guess you can afford to snub GM. Too bad, beautiful car! confuse

UPDATE: Eli Manning Loves His New ‘Vette After All…

Everybody’s had that experience – the quick pat down of all the pockets, the frantic rummaging through the bag, and finally the realization that you managed to forget your keys. What none of us have experienced, though, is doing that in front of an estimated 111.3 million people on worldwide TV…

That’s what happened to Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning last Sunday, when he started to walk off the podium at the post-game presentation of a 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible Centennial Edition and veteran sportscaster Dan Patrick had to remind Manning to take the keys with him. Of course, in the age of the internet, no incident goes unremarked, no matter how innocent, and the story went viral through a number of different outlets (us included).

Of course, the truth of the matter is that there was simply a hell of a lot going on all at the same time, and Manning had no intention of turning down the car, inadvertently or otherwise. The following day, GM officially presented the Giants QB with the car, which he gratefully accepted.

So, Manning has his new ‘vert, we’re sorry that we ever believed that anyone would turn down a free Corvette, and the nation can finally shift its attention back to what’s truly important – namely, M.I.A. flipping the bird during the half-time show.

Ok, so he's a good guy and again the media turned an innocent oversight into BAD PRESS as usual. At least they corrected it this time.

Ken the Grand Sport is a nice car but the black wheels got to go. I can't understand the new generation as many think that Black Mags are the way to go now. I don't care what Color the car is and whether it is a Corvette or not. Black wheels do not look good on the car especially on this Black Grand Sport. Black wheels take too much away from the looks. Everything just blends in from the Black Paint to the Black tires to the Black wheels. Blah! Even on a red C6 like yours Ken they wouldn't look good.

 Fred,

I tend to agree with you with one exception, some cars look good with the black chrome wheels. The chrome gives them an anodized look. But I also am not a fan of most black wheels. I have also seen some of the machined surfaced wheels with body colored surround that looks really nice. The contrast of the machined against the color looks very cool to me. Maybe not on a corvette though?

I think everyone on this forum had that goal at some point in their life to get a Corvette for themselves. I say go for it. Don't ever be a Procrastinator. Met many over the years who wanted sometime bad but never made a move. Plenty had to do with getting themselves a Corvette or other type of Muscle Car over the years. Have a friend as of this moment who had a '66 Big Block Chevelle back in the mid 60's. He been talking about getting another like he had back in the day but all he does is talk about it now for years but doesn't make the move to get another. He is definitely a procrastinator.
