Hurricane Sandy

Anyone have any problems with Hurricane Sandy? I sure did. Still to today I have a large Oak Tree that fell during the storm still sitting on my Morton Pole Barn. The tree at its base must be 36" around and at least 60' tall. Got to give credit to Morton Buildings for being a strong structure although the roof is ripped open and subject to the elements for the time being. It saved my '67 Corvette from being crushed by the large Oak though. There was debri all over my car cover but I checked the car out well after giving it a bath on Thursday and don't even see a scratch on it. Wish I can say the same for my building as that Oak Tree caused $28k worth of damage to it. Have someone coming out with a crane on Sunday to get the tree off of my building. Hope the building can hold out till then as one never knows. That is a lot a weight to be just sitting there on the building.disbelief

In Maine we got wind and rain but no power outages in my area .We we're pretty well prepared for the worst and the Canadians had sent hundreds of power crews to Maine .They we're released from the state to move south where requested. Oddly there was a union labor issue that the Canadians we're not wanted in some areas that had the most damages .

We have 400 plus buildings in various New England areas with no service calls ,I hate service calls .

80% of New Jersey was without power and some through today still don't have power. We were lucky in that respect being one of the 20% who continued to have power. Just a mile or so from my home I own a home that I rent out. Power just came on there Thursday night. My tenant had to use a large generator being without power for 11 days. Had to wire it in to pump well water on top of trying to stay warm with some portable heaters.

I remember our first long term outage ,I had a 10,000 watt welder and 1000 feet of electrical cord run up and down hallways and stairs. It work but we found much more convenient ways .

I thought all NJ power was to be restored by today ,is that true?

There are many electrical workers still here from out of state. From what I understand there are still many without power. Not more the half a mile away from me the lines are down at one of the homes located there where a large tree took them out. The tree is all cut up and sitting there uprooted. Can't figure why they are still without power.

State Farm Insurance Company says they are not repsonsible for trees that are down on your property. I was told by my State Farm Insurance adjuster that if the tree didn't hit your house you are on your own. Was also told that any tree that hits your house they will only pay up to $500 to have it removed from your property. A lady adjuster who called me one week ago Monday told me she didn't care if one had 14 trees fall on their house they would only pay up to $500 to have the cut wood removed and they don't pay to have branches ground up. Isn't it funny you never find out about these things when you buy Property Insurance until you need to make a claim? Had my property insurance on my home since 1985. Never made a claim. Still no adjuster out to my Property as of yet to inspect my pole barn that was hit by one very large oak tree. Had to take things into my own hands and pay out of my pocket in the mean time to get things done to sure up my building. Obama's photo opt with Chris Christie has done nothing for the state of N.J. trust me. All it was, was a election oportunity.

That really sucks .ya know we'd all go blind if we read everything in our policy .We'd have to have an attorney to explain half of it.We intern place to much trust in those that are legally screwing us .

father among his wise advice tips was never trust anyone in the insurance business even if your mother is the agent.
